Budgets - Who Needs to Know?

Budget is one of the most important aspects of a video production.  Yet, it is the most feared by clients and the production company.

The client tends to keep what they are willing to pay confidential.  They feel like the production company will spend whatever they are offered.

The production company generally will bid what they think will cover the expectations of the client.  It might include things the client may feel are not important.  And it might also not include things the client would be willing to pay for.  In the end, both the client and the production company may be disappointed in the results.

The Three P's of Production

To make a film or video, there are three steps which are followed.  The more planning done with each step helps make a more successful production.

1.  Pre-Production

This is the initial planning stage of a production and crucial to the success of the video.

A subject for the video is chosen.  For web videos, this would be the purpose to be accomplished.  Then a script is developed that will achieve that purpose.  If the videos is a testimonial, scripting may be rather simple and just include the narration that sets up the interview.  More elaborate productions will need a detailed script as this is the guide for the production.

Why Shoot Green Screen?

Sometimes it is better to go on location.  And sometimes it is better to bring the location to you.  This depends on a number of factors.

Sound

One of the important issues with a production is the quality of the sound.  If you are trying to do an interview in a noisy environment, you may not be able to get satisfactory sound.  This could result from an open area where others are working, answering phones, running machines.  It could be from a room with uncontrolled reverberation.  Ironically, this is frequently the case in a conference rooms where media presentations are given.  And it could result from heating/air conditioning found in many commercial buildings.
